I buy an average of 165 CDs/LPs/etc every year. But with a wonderful chain like the New England-based Newbury Comics, one that I only visit on holiday, I dread the day I pull into Boston to find the front door padlocked and the receivership notice pasted to the glass.

My Dad had an interesting exchange with a Newbury clerk last month. There to buy a pile of CDs for me, he asked where the iTunes cards were kept. Clerk replied, &quot;We don&#039;t sell iTunes cards here. We probably should, because they&#039;d make us money and be a quick turnover item, but we have to take a stand somewhere.&quot;

THAT warms my heart. But how much longer can Newbury and its ilk hold out? I hate walking into HMV locations in Toronto to see precious rack space commandeered by virtual stock. Less than a third of my yearly intake is new, so out of personal necessity I feed the devil by online ordering.
 
Thus, even die-hard music fans find themselves exacerbating the issue of relevance facing bricks-and-mortar stores. It&#039;s a terribly unsettling time.

If a company wants to do this, they can go right a head.

I would, however, argue that people who read blogs (which is not most normal people or specifically people who don&#039;t spend time online) are more discerning than you think. Are there millions of bad blogs out there with no readers? YOU BET! And that&#039;s precisely the category flogs fall under. 

That said, for every spammer who sends out 5 million messages, some person is duped. 

If you&#039;re going to shill and you don&#039;t mind doing so - basically any paying client gig that isn&#039;t under your name is just that - you want to make sure there&#039;s no way of tracing you to that. Otherwise your reputation as a legit writer really will take a hit. 

I say, go and do whatever you have to to get food on your plate and keep the student loan police away. When you&#039;ve got enough cash to buy helicopters and stuff then you can tell all the bag gigs to shove off. Until then, maintain your own blog for your own voice. :)</description>
